Fun Fundraisers - Chalk The Walk
WHAT: A unique, fun community chalk art festival. Artists of all ages and skill
levels will create works of art by drawing with pastels directly on the sidewalk.
This festival will feature children’s entertainment and activity areas, along with
artists who will be exhibiting their original art. Come out and “Chalk The Walk.”
WHEN: Saturday, May 9, 2009. Artists have from 9:00 to 2:00 to work on
their chalk drawings. The public is invited to view this art as it develops
throughout the day until 4:00.
WHERE: The chalk festival will be held at the Mira Mesa Recreation Center
located between Mira Mesa Boulevard, Camino Ruiz, and New Salem.
Directions:
From Interstate 15 exit Mira Mesa Boulevard and travel west for
approximately 2.5 miles.
From Interstate 805, exit Mira Mesa Boulevard and travel east for
approximately 5 miles.
The Recreation Center is on the corner of Mira Mesa Boulevard
and New Salem Street.
Parking lots are available on both sides of New Salem Street.
COSTS: All artists are sponsored by corporations, small business owners,
non-profit organizations or individuals. Chalk will be furnished at no cost to the
participating artists. For the viewing public, the festival is FREE.
WHAT SPONSORS DO: Chalk The Walk sponsors may purchase sidewalk
square(s) or make a donation with a tax-deductible contribution to the Mira
Mesa Women’s Club. Sponsors may provide their own artists to chalk their
squares or they may ask the Mira Mesa Women’s Club to provide them with
student artists. For more information and to see the many benefits of being

WHAT ARTISTS DO: We invite all students and local artists (both amateur
and professional) to participate in the festival. If you are interested in being an
artist, download the Artist Entry Form from this website or contact us. For
information on being a volunteer artist, check the "Be An Artist" section or email
us.
WHAT VOLUNTEERS DO: Be part of Chalk the Walk - a Mira Mesa Art Festival.
Volunteers are welcomed. No experience necessary! We rely on the generosity
of our volunteers to make this a success. Artists, business owners, and other
community-minded people are invited to become part of this festival. If you are
interested in being a volunteer, fill out the Volunteer Application Form and mail
it to us.
GRANTS: Teachers who would like to receive funds for a special art project
are encouraged to submit a completed Grant Application to the Mira Mesa
